I have written, designed, illustrated, produced and taken photos for front pages, websites and social media in my 20+ years as an editor, visual journalist and graphic designer. My design and graphics work has been featured and honoured by SND, Newseum and the Poynter institute, commented on by the best editorial designers in the world, such as Mario Garcia and Tim Harrower and won national and international awards and acclaim. I am equally comfortable as a hands-on designer and artist as I am directing others and setting benchmarks and standards.

I was the key editorial driver in launching Fairfax Regional Media’s first iPhone and Android apps in 2011. The app was designed to let editors set assignments for readers to take on. An assignment might be calling on readers to capture dramatic breaking news, or their favourite Christmas memories. It also featured news on the go, with the latest local news and sport content, national news, blogs, photos, videos and weather all at the fingertips of the reader. The app was an instant success and has since been downloaded by almost 400,000 regional Australians. Soon after launching the app in Launceston, it went straight to the top of the ‘Top Free Apps’ chart on iTunes and received an average 5-star rating.

The Examiner’s iPhone app was a winner at the International News Media Association awards for Digital Audience Usage and Engagement category for an audience under 75,000.
